    question:

how does the dave ramesy plan work for people who are self employed?

Me for instance, as a real estate broker, I don't get a set paycheck every week.

so I have to stash cash away till next closing....it makes it harder to pay off every single bill immediately because I don't know when the next pay day is

We paid off the house and 2 cars. Working on funding the kids collage and Roth IRA for both of us.

I can't answer that question but I know he has a variable income plan for folks just like yourself.

LOL! You do realize that those principles are exactly what Dave recommends and advocates in his teachings right?

I'd like to take a look at that.

I believe his idea is sound.

Not everyone has common sense or self discipline....and no I'm not talking about anyone in particular or myself for that matter!

For some people....this is the only avenue for success and to be debt free!

You can buy his book for $10 or go through a facilitated 9-week course for ~$80. I've paid way more for much less!

Its awesome. Its cool to read about people getting their lives headed in the right direction.

                      But....

I still can't grasp the notion of how his advice differs/is better from simple math common sense that you would think the general population would possess.

The fact he has made millions of simple math/accounting basics to the populous, to me defines the world we live in.

This place is like a vacuum. It use to be mhbb power douching the thread when this subject came up. Now we have this guy

He has a free radio show and most of his info is free online. Or you can also check out any of his books at any library, usually for free.

No worries, my post toasties are still good.

I know Mike D, and Oscar to both be very intelligent guys.....and they are 2 of Dave Ramseys biggest supporters.

I know Roger a little bit too, and he seems to be doin ok for himself.

What does he recommend done paying off a house? Lets say you have a chunk of cash. Do you put the whole chunk towards your principle or just use that and make extra payments each month. Luckily for us, that is our only remaining debt.

We've been on it for a little over 4 years. Paid off $88k so far. The last $12k is going a little slower because we've had 2 kids in the last 3 years and are only on 1 income now. Once the kids are paid off and we don't have to worry about them getting repo'd, we'll hit the $12k again.

You know I asked the lady who brought the papers to the room for my son on check out day if they'd come get him if we didn't pay, and she and my wife were both equally NOT amused.
