    "Hot spots" on lab

Anything i can do tonight to help my lab out with hot spots? She had a small one last night and i put a spray on it from petsmart and when i checked it today its doubled in size. Anything i can do at home until a vet opens up tomorrow? She had em once last year and we took her to the vet for steroids.

One thing to do is shave the hair back all around the hot spot. The hair holds moisture around the hot spot and helps spread it.

Cherry flavored liquid children's Benadryl. Found at most HEB or other grocery stores. Will counteract the itching & allow the dog to leave it alone. You may have to use a 5-10 cc syringe to get them to drink it. Mine would take it willingly from the first time.

Thanks for the help folks. A hot spot is an irritated spot that is itchy and painfull to the dog. Can be caused by a variety of reasons. They will scratch and chew on the area until its bare raw skin. It can go from the size of a dime to the size of a hand in a few hours depending how much they chew and lick.

This ^^^^^ don't put any salve or anything kid that on it. The anti itch sprays are ok.

I don't know the dosage of benedril but I remember it being way more than the adult dosage for my 100lb lab.

                    Good luck.

You can use creams just make sure they are for hot spots. Nu Stock works great clearing those up
