Will be gettin my CHL next month, so I'm shoppin for a pistol now. Really liked th feel of Ruger's SR9 & SR40.
Thoughts? Opinions on cal &/or mfg/model?
I'm a ruger fan through and through... But can't find anything about their semi auto Plastic type center fire pistols, that they have over the competition.
Have you tried another manufacturer like Glock, Springfield, M&P...?
If your going to put your life on them, go take several for a "test drive" and see what you like best. People will have opinions on cals/models like they do bows. You have to find what fits you.
Now, if you want, get with me and we'll go burn through some ammo

Good advice. Try a bunch out and see what fits you best. When you find the right one you'll know.
I'm guessing ur trying to decide what caliber to get. Get what you can shoot comfortably in a smaller CC weapon. Trust me the receiving end could care less what caliber they are about to be shot at with. The whole one shot knock down crud is just that crud. It's all about shot placement. If you want to knock um down use a shotgun. just my .02

Flip a coin.
Normally a 9mm in the same model of any make/model will carry a couple of extra rounds. It will have less recoil and easier recovery time. The ammo is generally a good bit cheaper (at least in normal times).
For the .40 you might get minimally better ballistic performance especially when going through barricades. In flesh very little. For that potential slight increase in performance you generally lose a round or two when compared to the 9mm and with a bit more recoil.
I think they are essentially equal and it mostly depends on confidence in the weapon. One is 9mm in diameter and the other is 10mm. Like I said, flip a coin.

If i could hit the heart or fatal T every time under the stress, pressure, adrenaline rush, chaos, suddeness that happens in a self defence situation I would carry a 22. But I know I cannot so I get what caliber I can handle that well stop an attacker fastest from hurting me or my loved ones.
