Look at the castaway Skelton or American rodsmith rods for top waters. The best crankbait rods I have ever used were the browning silaflex rods. They are cheaper (around 50.00) so they often get over looked but I have some that are around 20 years old and still catching fish. On those cranking rods a one pound fish feels the same as a five pound fish. My hooking and landing percent went up considerably when I switched to them for crankbaits. You can throw big deep diving crankbaitsall day without wearing yourself out.

Those look good. Once you get around $200 bucks I tend to like most of the rods. The hundred dollar ones are hit and miss and to what I like.

I ended up buying a falcon cara reaction T7 crank bait rod, 7 med with a moderate tip. I am continuing my search for a top water rod but will probably get the lowrider salt top water rod.

For bass fishing I prefer a 6'-6'8" medium action rod with a fast tip. If you are fishing around shoreline structure the shorter rod gives a little more control on the cast. You want the light action tip to give as you jerk the rod so that the bait only moves a few inches forward while the head swings side to side. As for my favorite top water baits, I like the Hedon spitting image in bone, frog and shad pattern. It has the profile of a shad laying on its side and walks on the surface like a Zara spook. Another one is the crazy shad (small twin propped slush bait similar to a tiny torpedo) and if you can find them the old school clear boy howdy fished in the pockets of hydrilla during the summer. On windy days a rebel popR is hard to beat.

Cabelas, I went just about everywhere looking for a medium action rod with fast or MF tip.

Bingo...7' is a little long for topwater baits IMO

                    Its a bad mofo

                    8' medium heavy I think

The etra length is great for wading to keep the line off the water and plenty of action with braided line.
