    New York City

We just checked into our hotel near Times Square and we will be here for 36 hrs.

Any recommendations for sights that we should see or restaurants/bars that should be visited?

    Juniors for the Cheesecake.
Take in a Broadway show. I didn't think I would like ANYTHING about NYC, but boy was I wrong.

Juniors is just a block away from you.

      Italian: Babbo
      Japanese: Sakajura
Bagels: Ess-A Bagel (over off 2nd Ave.) worth the 10 minute walk. He's like the soup nazi.
Oyster Bar: In Grand Central Station

Walking around Little Italy is a blast. Lots of excellent restaurants to choose from.

          Eat in little italy.

I thought I would hate it, but it was great. Expect crowds and the occasional rude person, but for the most part it was a nice trip.

Go to Central Park in the morning. Beautiful park and there should be great street entertainment in there for the 4th.

A touristy thing that is pretty cool if you have never done it is Top of the Rock. You can see for miles and miles up there.

Don't go to the M&M store if you are an M&M fan. It will break your bank for sure

If you want to go have a drink somewhere really cool (it will be a hike from Times Square, but you can do it...we have several times ) Salon de Ning Bar on top of the Peninsula Hotel

Thanks for the help. We are sitting down to eat now at juniors. Looking for a good place for drinks afterwards near here.

It's been a while since I've been to NY but there was a cool pub in Times Square called "The Scruffy Duffy" or something like that. It was pretty cool and had some good beer on tap

                        I second Juniors!
Don't forget the pastrami at Carnegie Deli also.
Get tour bus Greyline tickets and you can see the whole city in a few hours.
Get off and take the free Staton Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty fast.
Go to Empire State Building by VIP tickets and bypass the lines.
You can do lots in that amount of time!

Discount tickets to Broadway Shows - TKTS in Time Square. Many shows discounted 20-40% off day of show.

                          Pizza - many good places!

Subway - cool way to see the real NYC people.

                          Museum of Natural History.

St Patricks and Rockefeller Center, great view from the top of the Empire State Bldg.

Manducattis in Long Island City across the 59th Street Bridge. Zlata Praha is one of 2 training Czech restaurants.
