Trying to start an archery club at school

Well first off at my school to start a club all you need is a school sponsor (staff member that writes their name on a few sheets, I am a member of ice hockey and roller hockey clubs for 2 years and I have never met either of the sponsors nor have I heard of the roller sponsor) and a club form. Today I went to the AP and asked for the form. She said she couldn't approve the club off the bat like most clubs due to weapons. This is a great point in fact I am glad she said this but the next thing kind of "got to me" she wants me to have at least 2 sponsors so that 1 would be at EVERY practice and shoot. If one wouldn’t be available we would have to cancel practice or even the shoot. She claims it is for safety reasons but I play 2 types of hockey one that includes sharp blades, sticks, and a 3.5lb puck in an enclosed rink with 5 guys from another school trying to "kill" us but I have never seen our sponsor....

That was me venting I apologize, now for the important stuff. The AP wants a proposal witch she could bring to the Principle. The points i plan to touch on are as follows.

-An invite to the range to witness the safety and shooting
-Attach a target face with the scoring explained
-A copy of the rules at the local range (a gander mt.)
-The fact that a parent board would be involved with the team
-A parent release form for all members before involvement with the club
-We would start with self competition
-The fact that the arrows are tipped with blunt tips not broad heads
-Assuring that all shooting will be at official ranges only
-Club will be open to anyone in the school (male + female and grades 9-12)
-All students must be passing to participate
-Members would have to have or purchase their own equipment to start out with

Thanks for listening to my long read.
    any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I was going to suggest going to NASP and following their guidelines 100%. Weapons? Sounds like Cali nonsense.

Find a local (the closest) NASP sponsored program, contact them and solicit their help. Arrange a visit for you, the school administrator and whoever else is needed to make the decision to the other school to see it in action, and how safe it is.

Do some asking around at school. You never know you may find a teacher or other staff member that shoots a bow.

You really need to get a teacher or coach certified as a BAI (Basic Archery Instructor) I can come down and teach the BAI course to your sponsor which is usually a teacher or coach at your school. PM me.

Studies hve been done to show that during that 6 weeks period attendance was at an all time high at several schools. Ther are many positive points shown on this dvd that will help you try to convince the skeptics.
                    Good luck

You could always contact Matthews directly and learn what is the best way to go about this!

I agree with you that competive archery is safer than hockey. Other than the guy I saw reverse dry fire a bow (ie let the grip slip out of his hand during his draw), I have seen more blood at a hockey game.

The school is probably just being overly cautious at this point. Once they are fully informed, I think they will be on board.

                        Good Luck!

NASP is really more geared to younger than high school aged kids. I am in the process of putting on in, in my high school. First step is to find yourself a sponsor. That will help you more right now than going at it alone.
