question about a ticket.....what would you do?

a few weeks ago, I was driving when I encountered a red light. I stopped at the red light, then saw a dump truck coming from the left so I sped up quickly as I made the right hand turn.

a few hundred yards up the road I saw a motorcycle cop coming to a stop behind some traffic, as I passed him he turned on his lights and pulled me over. Puzzled, after we do the license and registration rigormarole he asks why didn't I stop at that red light? after telling him I did and he must be mistaken, he writes me a ticket.

    question is this:

The fine for running a red light is $200. normally I would just accept the fine if I was guilty, but I did not fail to stop at the red light. He was a min. of 300 yards away when I made the right hand turn, so its not like he was at the corner to see where I did or didn't stop

Would you fight the charge, or bend over and take the fine, knowing full well you didn't run the light?

        I fought and won; twice.

It will cost you more in lost wages and court fees than the cost of the ticket.

If you have a convincing case and he "principle of it" matters then a jury trail is by far your best bet.

            I'm self employed, I don't lose wages.

If i'm found not guilty then why would I pay court fees?`

Fight it and do a trial by jury.

Happened to me when I lived in Houston. At court date on the day, I talked with the DA privately. Told him that the sheriff who wrote me the ticket couldn't have been there because I did stop at red light before turning right and mile and half later the sheriff was on me. He told me I ran red light. I tried to ask him all the question. He was grumpy old man and didn't want to answer my ? DA asked me all the question about that day and I drew a map for him and explain everything. He dismissed my ticket.

                You should fight it.

I will not admit to anything I didn't do...It's that simple.

If it were local, I'd fight it. If it happened in another city and I'd have to travel to go to court and fight it, I'd take defensive driving.

If he was past the intersection he may not have been able to see you stop at the stop sign ???. Also you're supposed to yield, this includes the truck not having to brake and yield for you.

I'm not understanding the highlighted part.
If he was stopping behind traffic, why weren't you? Just his lane stopping?

This may be part of it. If he saw you pull out in front of the truck, he may be just assuming you didn't stop. Either way, it sounds like you didn't properly yield, unless the truck was further away than what you make it sound like.
Did the intersection possibly have a no turn on red sign?
