Add on to my previous guitar thread....

What are must know songs for the guitar? So far I've learned a few from jamey johnson, eric church, aaron lewis, and old crow medicine show. Now by learned, I mean only to the point that it is recognizable, not album quality!

    Whats on your list?

    Hmmmmm......

Dark and Dirty Mile (Jason Boland)

Any Hayes Carll song...but I really like the one with Corb Lund called Bible on the Dash.

Finger on the Trigger (Brandon Jenkins)

    Please Come to Boston (DAC)

    Gin, Smoke, Lies (Turnpike Troubadours)

    Any Robert Earl Keen song

I could go on and on.

I play songs that I like.

A great selection of classic country music lyrics with chords. Old country favorites as well as a great selection of country gospel song lyrics with chords.

This is a great link if you like older country songs.
What I like is it lets you transpose to different chords to fit your voice.

My first was Aaron Lewis's version of Black by Pearl Jam. Then Every Rose Has It's Thorns then so on and so on. I've got a ton of chords downloaded over the last few yrs. I find one and I copy and paste it into a WORD document so I can edit if needed and also look at it without being online, that and it's quicker. There's tons to choose from so stick with it!

My best advice for beginning guitarist is this:
Find a song and learn it, inside and out, top to bottom, every inch of it. DO NOT GET OVERLOADED with 100 songs and try to learn them all or play them and move on to the next one. One at a time, then move to the next.

The internet is great because it gives us tons of options. But's it's also troublesome for the same reason.

                  If you haven't been there.......

                  go to chordie.com.

Thousands of songs. Search by song or by artist. You can transpose the key of each song before you print it.

Sometimes you'll find the chords don't work, and sometimes you'll find some lyrics that'll make you scratch your head, but most of the songs are all right.

                  Plus it's all free.

Focus on songs that YOU know and like. You will enjoy it and play more if you do that. Plus it is a lot easier to learn a song that you are familiarity are with than a song you have never heard.

Learn songs you like; you'll play them more.
