Didnt want to derail the ( check yo mailbox thread). Just wanted to know how many folks here have applied and won a public hunt. I have tried a few in the past years with no success. Please share your experiences here and or what your "dream" public hunt would be.

The group of guys I always put in with has been drawn for 1 hunt in 9 years. It was a lot of fun though. Got to go shoot some park deer...it was a lot harder than you'd think it would've been. You roll through this place in a car during the summer time and they'll almost eat out of your hand. Show up in the fall wearing camo and sporting a high-powered shoulder cannon and they magically disappear.

Apply for the areas with fewer applicants and lower success rates and you will get drawn for something more years than not. I have done pretty well. Dad and I started with the youth hunts almost ten years ago. I got my first deer at possum kingdom state park back in 04 I believe. What part of the state are you in? Old Sabine Bottom is one of my favorite places, and it's badly underrated IMO. Easy to draw.Last edited by 30-30; 06-28-2013, 10:22 PM.

all have been whitetail . Mason mnt was bow for bucks didn't get any, James Daughtry (not sure on spelling) bow buck one of the four of us got a spike . granger was bow for buck -no luck. Fort Boggy=Bow no luck ,Hill Country was rifle 1 guy got a 8 point .And did a card drawing at Lake Texana it was shotgun or bow-I got a doe and a spike with my bow . We have always had a good time and is fun to hunt in a different area than home. Waiting on my book . Will put in for bow hunts some where that works with my shift work

Over the past six years we've been drawn three times, management hunt at Kerr and Guadalupe, then a private lands hunt at Terrell, we've gotten at least one deer each time. Still waiting on one of the big draws, they are a lot harder to pull. But for the entry price of only 3 bucks each (10 for private lands) there are some decent chances for some awesome hunting opportunities, and with the exception of only a couple , most of the hunts are for a four person hunting party.

I've been drawn on over a dozen hunts. All were deer hunts but 2. Those 2 were spring turkey hunts. On the deer hunts, I can only recall one hunt where I never had a shot opportunity.
My son on the other hand, drew at least one hunt every year I put in for him on the youth only hunts, except one yr. He drew a hunt 5 yrs in a row, in which 2 of those yrs, he drew 2 hunts!!
Last yr was his last yr to go in for a youth!!
