    Any tricks for lowering cholesterol?

I've had borderline high cholesterol nearly all my life (genetics) but recently it's been a little higher than normal. I work out on a regular basis, mostly lifting weights but I also include plenty of cardio. I have to admit, beer is my nemesis and I know it doesn't help the cause. I had my pre-employment physical and was told I need to do something about it. So other than taking pharmaceutical drugs, anyone have suggestions?

    Fish oil!

Changed my levels back to normal in about 6 months. I take 1 of the huge pills every day.

Cheerios.... Lol. Nah, I think it comes down to the food intake. Take care of your diet. (EASIER SAID THAN DONE, I KNOW), but that's the only thing I can think of. And remember , just bc you're skinny doesn't mean you won't have cholesterol. Good luck.

The fish oil is a good choice. If possible, eating fresh salmon or halibut weekly will help as well. Those 2 fish are the best sources. Eating oatmeal daily will help as well.

Fish oil, oatmeal, cinnamon, blueberries, lots of colorful vegetables, lean meat (DEER!!), cut out the junk food and beer and such. Lots of exercise....

This is what I would do if it were me trying to reduce mine........

Since I believe the glycation process from the consumption of carbs is more to blame for heart disease and high cholesterol, I would drop my carb intake to less than 25% and continue to exercise for starters.

Fish oil and Flaxseed is your friend plus a clean diet. You can blend a half cup of oatmeal in a shake in the mornings also.

After that Crestor will lower it dramatically.

Over the counter, I get them at Costco, but they sell everywhere like Walmart, Walgreens, etc.

1200mg gel caps, but my wife informs me that they have now come up with a traditional pill that is smaller and solid. I've never had it, but some people swear that they burp and taste fish with the gel caps. So there is an alternative, lol

Niacin. Works wonders but I recommend getting the prescription (good stuff) from the Dr.

I concur on the fish oil. I would recommend a pharmacy grade like Stronger faster healthier brand http://www.sfh.com/products/omega_3-oil

One large bottle is a teaspoon a day and will last you 2 months. Good stuff!

If its genetic, then you may need medication, I realize you said you don't want to go that route, but you may have to. For me, diet and exercise wasn't enough, no matter what, I had to get on meds.
