    Tx Fish and Game???

So.... the soil conservation tank we have has a bad leak (see previous posts) and we are letting it dry up so it can be repaired. Is there a program thru Tx Fish and Game that will help us relocate the fish???? We have moved around 100 to another tank and I would hate to see them die. Fish frys and friends can only help so much. I guesstimate there to be 500-1000 bass remaining between 1-5# not including all the bait fish. It started out around 13 acres and is less than 2 acres now. I left a message with a game warden so hopefully he will call me back...

    Thoughts???

nope not that I know of. Most of the time they don't want them relocated anywhere due to disease and such. if you have another pond on your land then that's fine but I don't think they care or have the money to help

Answer from Tx Parks and Wildlife......

        Anybody need some fish?????!!!!!

Not with any private ponds or tanks, it is the owner's option to either catch & dressed the fish for themselves or family and friends or have them brought to family/friends ponds. Unfortunately, doing this may very well cause those ponds which the fish were placed, could deplete dissolved oxygen levels and also forage fish thus causing severe detrimental effects to those ponds. It's very possible you could have done more harm than good moving the fish, since it will displace the population that was currently present in those ponds and disrupted the management for that pond.

No, it is not legal to move or place/release any private pond or private waters fish species into any public reservoir, impoundment or tributary.
It could lead to species or exotics that were not present in those public waters before which may very well exist in your ponds. We have several instances where this has been done with both our freshwater impoundments and tributaries as well as our coastal saltwater areas.

Best thing to do would be to catch and eat or give the fish away, but that is your choice except for putting them in a private pond where you have gained permission from the landowner.
