Self check is great.....when it works but many times I wind up having some one having to check / approve something so what's the point. I prefer not to use it and actually hate it.

I hate Home Depot in general I would rather order online what i need.

A lot of their inventory is online only anyway.

No one was waiting in the waiting room and 3 of the 5 oil change bays were open with no cars in them.

Where y'all been the last 15 years - America voted (with their wallets) and by a landslide picked cheap products over customer service. In fact, we picked really cheap products destined to wear out after a short period of use over customer service.

Every time I hear one of these rants against customer service - especially from any of the big box retailers (walmart, homedepot, basspro) I think to myself - may as well complain about the earth being round and the sky being blue.

The self checkout does not take away jobs especially at wallmart they have a set number of cashiers plus the people it takes to keep up with those things. Also why wait in line and waste time standing there waiting for everyone and their cousin checkout when you can take the drop of extra energy it takes to scan an item and be gone. Does not add up I my mind..... Just me and my thinking.

I love the self checkouts because they are always open and I rarely have more than 10-12 items.... and because I know I can wave at Mike D, shaft-slinger and kfd82 as I walk out the door while they are standing up for their principles. ... ..

              Girl you are spot on.
Build a store next to an identical to a Walmart but with good service, knowledgeable personnel and plenty of open checkouts. With this comes a higher price for the same goods. THE STORE WILL NOT LAST A YEAR.

Love self checkout for the reasons others have already mentioned. Agree that customer service is pretty nonexistent at big box stores like Home Depot. ZenDaddy nailed the reason. I think the key is knowing what you want when you go to Home Depot or Lowe's and then having the time to walk the aisles to find it yourself. If I need real help I go to one of the few remaining real hardware stores or real landscape stores.

Somehow, though, Home Depot is doing almost $20 Billion in sales every single quarter. Pretty amazing when you think about how lacking the customer service can be there at times.
