    Stars make it official

The Stars have hired Lindy Ruff as their new coach. I am still unsure how I feel about it. I do think he was their 3rd choice though.

I wonder if it's still "No Goal". I think it's a decent hire. For some reason i wanted Vigneault.

Refresh my memory, Lindy Ruff was the coach of the Sabers when we beat them?

Been talking about this with a few of you and some buddies. I wasn't on board with Ruff but then I got to thinking about it.
They were in the cup in 99, name some players without going to look. Pecca and Hasek is all I came up with. He also made 8 playoff showings, name some players besides Miller. I watch a bunch of hockey and while I don't follow the Sabers I should know some of his players if any were studs. I don't, I think he's done that with avg players.
He may be a much better coach than thought. He's never had a Benn, Ericcson or Dillon(I hope) just good old fashion grinders. He may really shine once he has some talent.
Vineault, Torts and Tippet always had some studs on there teams. All good coaches but none did as much with as little.
The Ruff signing is growing on me.

yes, he's been the sabers coach for 14-15 yrs. That's saying a ton in the pro sports revolving coaching door

You make some good points. From what I remember he was more of a defensive minded coach.

I went from 98-12 and these are the top names
                    G- Miller, Hasek
F- Satan, Afinaganof, Vanek, Drurey, Connley, Roy, Pominville,

Thats not a hell of a lot of great players since 98. There were a few others that were flash in the pan kind of years but these showed up pretty regular.

Ruff looks better all the time. Tough to cook a 5 course meal when you're given a can of tuna, cheese whiz, iceberg lettuce, an onion and some recycled corn.

i have been talking back and forth with keep on this situation and his points are spot on. i went back and looked at rosters from the sabres and there are not a lot of players i have really heard of. this team may need a little defensive minded coach. i know they wanted Vigneault first and tippet second, but maybe i am buying into the koolaid, but i am begininng to like it more and more Ruff is here.

Satan was the other one I was trying to remember....besides that hack Barnaby.

I still agree with BaD Radio and think the Stars should've make Ruff sign an official statement admitting "Goal" before hiring.

                            Here's my views on that
Studs- Dillon, Hope to sign one

Solid- Daley, Robidas, Rhome and Goligoski (I think given the situation, Goligoski could soar)

We will see- Benn and Larsen

                            Prospects- Olesiak, Nemeth,
Recent prespects- Morrow (for the morrow trade), Connaughten said to have a heavy shot

I believe the key for the season is a big signing.

Maybe the combo of Nill and Ruff help entice a big signing

Daley is less than solid anymore, imo. Sometimes I forget he's on the team. And I love Robidas.....but he's getting slower and more beat up every year. And they are both too small these days.

They need 2 pretty big signings to move the needle much, imo. Then there's the power play.

I don't doubt they are already a better team, but I want to see some stud players come to town.....I don't care that much who coaches them.
