down one generation is second cousins
start having children of cousins but different generations relations is the "removed"
you can also count back to a common ancestor.
Any first generation is parents
their children are siblings to each other...and share parents
their children are first cousins to each other...and share grandparents
their children are second cousins to each other...share great grandparents
their children are third cousins to each other...and share great great grandparents
their children are fourth cousins to each other....and share great great great grandparentsComment

I have several "2nd cousins" that I grew up with, more so than "1st cousins".
Dad was the 9th of 11 children so there is a quite a bit of age difference within generations in our familyComment

I have a friend whose 2 little sisters were 5 years younger than his nephew. They all went to the same school.
It took a while for the teachers to believe the Nephew when he called the younger girls his aunts.Comment
