    Flying with Bow Cases?

Has anyone ever been charged oversize fees for their bow cases? Both of mine are over the 62 inch total size.

yes, you will be charged extra...The best thing to do to get a cost estimate is to go to a local airport and have them tell you, and if that is not possible then call and airline...When I was charged I believe I was charged as if it was another piece of luggage

Only when I packed to much stuff in mine and it weighed to much. Worth the extra 20 though. Its an SKB 4114a

I took my bow to Maryland last year several times and was never charged for oversize. Kept expecting it but never got hit with it... They didn't mention it so I just shut up!!

I have never been charged extra for my bow case. Shoot my huge duffle bag is about the size of three suitcases, and I have never been charged extra for it either.........

Wrap your hunting clothes around your bow to protect it if somebody jumps on top of the case.

I duct tape the latches to keep them from opening.

If you decide to put on an airline, have a ten-spot ready to hand to the porter when you check it in. I've never been charged excess $, but they could.

The owner of the local archery shop just flew to South Africa for the world championship shoot, his bow arrived 30 minutes after the tournament ended.

I have had good luck and success shipping FedEx ground to somebody's house, or you could use a hold for pickup at FedEx. Remember, the 4 days they quote does not include the day you drop it off, nor does it include Sat/Sunday. I'd ship a full week ahead to be sure.

I travel often with a bow case and the only thing they have ever cared about is...

#1 it is not a firearm

#2 it is not over 50lbs (they are sticklers on this)

                good luck

Same here, only when it's too heavy. I have the skb 4114a as well. Both of my bags are oversize and they have never mentioned it.

Bill, I had though about doing this, is it expensive. I would ship it from N TX to Northern Quebec. Is there a place I can estimate the shipping price?

I hardly ever fly on the airlines. I just put it in my plane and go. The weight is not enough a factor to even weigh it. I plan to be flying out next Saturday to a bow shoot, weather permitting.

Flew to Nevada last August & they did not charge me for it (SKB 4114). Just counted a my second piece of luggage. Also filled it w/ clothes & kept it under 50 pounds as others have mentioned.

sporting goods, ie, golf bags, skies, gun/bow cases are exempt from the excess size charge. But you can get hit on the weight. Go to your airlines website and look up the baggage restrictions. Print them off and take them to the airport with you. If they try to charge you, show them the THEIR rules. Most baggage agents are clueless.

I once had to prove my bow was "unloaded" to a baggage clerk.
