Has anyone ever been charged oversize fees for their bow cases? Both of mine are over the 62 inch total size.

Wrap your hunting clothes around your bow to protect it if somebody jumps on top of the case.
I duct tape the latches to keep them from opening.
If you decide to put on an airline, have a ten-spot ready to hand to the porter when you check it in. I've never been charged excess $, but they could.
The owner of the local archery shop just flew to South Africa for the world championship shoot, his bow arrived 30 minutes after the tournament ended.
I have had good luck and success shipping FedEx ground to somebody's house, or you could use a hold for pickup at FedEx. Remember, the 4 days they quote does not include the day you drop it off, nor does it include Sat/Sunday. I'd ship a full week ahead to be sure.

sporting goods, ie, golf bags, skies, gun/bow cases are exempt from the excess size charge. But you can get hit on the weight. Go to your airlines website and look up the baggage restrictions. Print them off and take them to the airport with you. If they try to charge you, show them the THEIR rules. Most baggage agents are clueless.
I once had to prove my bow was "unloaded" to a baggage clerk.
