    how many pounds of fish or meat will a yeti hold

    This question is in reference to checking the cooler on a plane. I dont want to go over my weight limit and have to give a TSA agent some fish.
    How many pound of fish/meat can you put in a 45 or 50 qt.

    The airlines are all different now. Last I flew each bag was a 50# weight limit and there are size restrictions also. Now I hear some airlines are down to 40#. Call your carrier.

        what about 3 lbs of meat to a quart....so that times 50 equals 150lbs?
        maybe you could weigh a quart of your meat then do the math? Im sure smart people will chime in....thats my guess

              Shoot Leftridge a PM and ask him! I think he could have bought a few extra Yetis for the overweigh charges going to Canada last year on a bear hunt.

                  I know what the carrier will allow
                  what I need to know is the amount of weight the cooler holds full.
                  and its not cheaper to buy a cooler there. SW charges no fees for bag and united only charges $25. I dont know anywhere I can get a cooler for $25.

                    Best thing to do is buy one of those waxed cardboard 50lb fish boxes.

                    Like they sell here.

                    The fish needs to be vacuum sealed and frozen. No ice of any kind allowed in the box.

                    Total weight can't exceed 50lbs for the whole box. A regular cooler will really eat into the amount you can bring back.

                    I used one of these boxes last time I went to Alaska. Worked well.

                      Why not just box it up and ship it to yourself like they do when you order a ham. It comes in the styrofoam container with ice then packaged in cardboard

                        Whoever you fly check their limits. Dry ice under five pounds was allowed last time I flew with fish. if you have any questions call the carrier. I fly southwest and even though it's bags fly free there are still limits and restrictions to how big and how many. I knew some guys that would fly with the gear to fish, then ship the gear home and fly the fish back.

                          I brought back a 55qt Brute filled with salmon fillets from BC last year and it was 73#. It was packed full too. The fish stayed frozen from Wed morning when we left Smithers till Friday mid morning when we got home.

                          As for the airline weight limits, 50# or you pay an extra $30 but when you cross 70# they charge around $100. You can't take it if it crosses 100#.
                          I also believe the linear inch limit is 62 so you better watch that.
                          I know leftridge paid $400 because his yeti was over 70# and more than 62 linear inches.

                          I lucked out and they never weighed mine

                              This is what we do on our Alaska trips. Find out what your carriers limit is. Then put the ice chest on a set of scales and put frozen vacuum sealed filets in until we are 1 lb away (airport scales may be diffferent). After weighing at the airport, if I have too much I put it in my carry on. it is usually thawed but still cold when I get home.
