    2006 Z71 hub replacement

For about a week now I have heard this horrible noise coming from my front end. Well last night I jacked up the front end and could move the wheel all over the place.

I started taking lugs off and couldn't get one off so I put them all back on and drove to the GMC dealership. They broke it loose for me. I guess my little compressor at home just didn't have enough juice.

Back to the house and got is all taken apart. Drove back to the dealership to pick up a hub assembly. $440 was the quote. I about fell off the stool. The parts guy said hold on and walked in the back. He came back and said I can sell it to you for $295. Still alot but better than $440.

So back to the house and got the new one installed before dinner was ready.

2006 Chevy Z71 crew cab 1500 with 55,000 miles. I was shocked to hear of hub bearing failure so early.

I will hold onto the receipt and part in case there is a recall on it down the road.

Oh well truck is back in shape to make a run to the lease this weekend.

I've put 3 on my truck with 140k on it. I put 4 on the one before with 180k. Put a couple on my dad's old truck and 2 on my uncle's.....these were all 3/4 ton Chevys.

We put one on Tuthdoc's 1/2 ton in Leakey last summer.

It's a horrible design flaw, and the whole Chevy IFS is a monumental piece of ****, and has no business under a truck. You'd think they'd have fixed it by now, rather than just trying to screw you out of 200$ extra for the parts!

The whole thing ****** me off......

My 2wd chevy has the same type hub and had to replace one a few years back.
My whole wheel shook as Mark said and was about to fall off by the time I got it into my mechanic. It is a **** poor design. Imagine going 70 on the interstate and have that whole assembly come off.

Most warranties I have seen cost a lot more than $295. Extended warranties are the biggest rip off there is. The profit margins for those things are ginormous.

Could be, but mine payed for itself the 1st time I had to use it. Not to mention being a handy tax write-off.

Just replaced a Ford F350 hub at 195K....sounds like the other one is close. I am told I am one of the lucky ones.....and that most see both go out before 100K.

Ford and Chevy hubs both suck....

We all use chevrolet at the ranch i work on. My truck is an 04 with 90,000 miles on it and has had two new hubs on each side. My brother in laws who works out here has an 05 and I think he's up to 5 on the driver side and 4 on the passenger side and has 60,000 miles. Two sets of his went out before warranty was up.
