Not to take away from the other thread. Hunter safety and knowledge!!

Maybe the other thread about the tragic hunting death of a young boy was/is not the thread to argue/discuss the logic behind "accidentally" shooting someone while hunting.
It seems to me that anyone not knowing their target and killing another hunter should be charged with negligent homicide or maybe involuntary manslaughter. You can't tell me is wasn't negligent...
Just because it was his son and obviously is distraught, does not negate culpability.
Again, my prayers are going up to all involved.

Right on, Mike... I can find no error in your logic...

Thanks for changing threads. Don't mind sharing my views on this thread. I fully agree a person should know what they are shooting at and would not dispute that with anyone. I do also feel accidents happen. If an investigation shows it was intentional then yes they should press charges.
If it truly was an accident, can anyone tell me what positives could possibly come out of sending him to jail? It can't be that it would stop others from doing this, you can't stop all accidents. Is him going to prision going to be any worse than him knowing he held his son while he bleeds to death, knowing that the last thing going through that boys mind is that "my dad did this to me"? Jail would be nothing compaired to that memory.

I look for this to be more common place after September 1st with the change in the laws and allowing kids even younger than before into the woods unsupervised.

I'm with you keep - remember jail is supposed to be about rehabilitation and segregation from society. I'm betting he has already learned his painful lesson, and who would we be protecting by placing a grieving (although reckless) father in prison???

            Really sad situation.....

it all goes back to common sense and what you were taught as a kid about the outdoors. My grandfather taught me. Everyone gets excited and feels that adrenaline rush when hunting, that is the main reason we are all out there. But it is safety first and knowing your target! I go over this with my son everytime we go hunting or shooting. He gets tired of hearing but i will just keep on giving it to him. Hopefully it sinks in.

I'm not saying he should serve time. The man is surely going to hate himself for many years. But something should be done. When someone leaves their child in an enclosed vehicle in the summer, on accident (or forgetfulness), should they be held accountable? A tragic mistake on either story and an illegal on to boot.

I agree. It was just so senseless that it hard to imagine. There would be no punishment great enough to match the grief he must feel.

Just can't understand how this could happen.

I agree this was senseless. This should have never happened. Thoughts and prayers for the family
