They have moved into my barn. Bad! I have caulked holes, sprayed with diesel, soapy water, random insecticides, and many other remedies I've been told. Tennis racket has had the most success. But I have to get them to go away. Any suggestions or ideas?!?!?

we had them bad in our deck 2 years ago and called the county agriculture agent, they told use to put DE(dont know the spelling of the full name) in each hole and the seal the holes. Once that was done to either paint or water seal all bare wood, they wont nest in wood that has a coating. we treated every hole we could find and wood filled them and then sprayed the entire deck with bear water seal(natural color) and havent had a problem since.

I bought some ant poison over the weekend and just before putting it out around my camp I noticed it stated.... Not effective on carpenter ants. Great! Mainly what I bought it for.
So.... what the heck is the deal with anything that has carpenter in it? Seems they are a different breed than other insects on killing them?Last edited by Bayouboy; 06-17-2013, 02:07 PM.

I live in a log home. I had bees when I moved in. I checked every day and if I found a hole, I would run a stiff piece of weed eater line in each hole. 8 or 9" or so and fill with wood putty. I also used a tennis racket, with great success. It took about 3 yrs, and this year I only had 1 so far. The trick is to kill the larva in the hole, and fill it in good, or they will hatch and be back in force!!
I also use my racket on red wasps!
