    Homeowner policy questions

How important is foundation coverage. I am currently with State Farm and my cousin is an agent for Farm Bureau. I had her work up some quotes for auto as well as homeowner. On both quotes she was able to beat my current policy costs while retaining the same coverage except for foundation coverage on the homeowner policy. She said that Farm Bureau doesn't offer that coverage? That seems odd to me...

I would think foundation coverage would be important on a home. My wife got our home owner insurance so I am not sure we have it though. But we live in a pier and beam home so it is different than a slab anyway

I only have foundation coverage for problems caused by underground plumbing.
We had our foundation leveled ( concrete slab) for less than what my deductible would have been. Of course we didn't need too many piers put in.

This is the way state farm's foundation coverage is written. I am having problems with mine now and state farm sent out a plumber to test all plumbing. If they had found leaks then they would have looked at location of leak to determine if the foundation issues were caused by leaks.

Since I did not have any leaks, they did not cover any foundation repairs.

I'm fairly certain that foundation insurance only covers as stated by cvanbrunt and not actual foundation issues. I have one water line coming into my home on a corner so it's something that would not be of value to me. Maybe one of the many insurance guys here can shed more light.

It usually covers foundation issues ONLY when caused by a plumbing leak. That said, it's expensive to make those repairs, so having the coverage is nice.
