    credit scores

so, the BS'n in the shop was going good...and this subject came up...some said in the 700's are great and others said under 800 is juck..what's the GS think?

I just refinanced the house while borrowing for the new shop and in huge bold print on the application it stated that any credit scores under 750 will not be accepted.... Thanks to my frugal wife!!! Ours is in great shape! She is 805 and mine was 790...

Its all up to the lender!!

      I see a few in the 800'S

More in the mid to upper 700's

Very few people can balance enough credit with debt to income to have a credit score in the 800's. anything in the mid to high 700's is good credit.

From what I have heard anything over 720 is pretty good

It really depends on the institution. Recently I've had one bank tell me at least 750 and two different credit unions tell me upwards of 700 and 720.

All lenders will have different requirements - 720+ is considered A Credit in our underwriting guidelines and 660-719 is considered B Credit

My wifes is 780 and mine is a hair over 800

                  Isn't 950 considered perfect?

It changes. Your lender will let you know.

For FICO credit scores, which have a range of 300 - 850 and are the most commonly used credit scores, different websites suggest different ranges for excellent, very good, good, average and poor. Here is an example from one site:

750+ Excellent credit score. You should qualify for the best interest rate and loan terms.
700 – 750 Good credit score. There won’t be any problem in getting a loan at a good interest rate.
640 – 700 Average credit score. You may qualify for the loan but not at a good interest rate.
580 – 640 Poor credit score. You will have a tough time getting a loan or a credit card.
Below 580 Bad credit score. It’s doubtful that you will qualify for a loan or a credit card.

Anything over 720 used to be considered good enough to qualify for the best interest rates and loan terms. However, these days you frequently need to be in the 750 - 760 range to qualify for the best rates and terms.

There is a competing credit score to FICO called VantageScore. It has a range of 501-990, but recently they announced they are changing to the FICO range of 300-850. Until that change is made, it's important to know if you are looking at a FICO score or a VantageScore because they use different point ranges.

Mid to upper 700's you can get the same intrest rate as someone in the 800's.

I don't have a car payment, mortgage, student loan or credit card debt.

                          So my score sucks.

                          But I sleep just fine.

I pay cash for everything. With two ex wives and currently married to my 3rd i assume my credit is who knows. I got rid of ALL my credit cards except one a few years back. I keep the one just in case. My motto is ( if you cant pay it off upon purchase then your better off without it). I like not owing anyone a dime
