    2008 2500 6.7 Diesal Dodge Transmission Problems

On Monday I was coming home from work and had to sit in bumper to bumper Traffic for about an hour. The temperature gauge was on about 230 and usually is on 200. I was almost home and had to stop at a stop sign but when I took off I heard a loud screech for a second and the truck jumped like the transmission slipped. Anyway so I kept driving and at the next stop when I took off the truck just revved up and wouldn't move so I thought I had lost the transmission for good. I had cars behind me and finally got the truck to move but slowly made it to the house. I shut the truck off and went inside to change clothes. When I came back out I started the truck and checked the transmission fluid, it was full and not discolored. I then got under the truck to see if I could see any sign of a leak or whatever. I found a few drops of fluid around the gasket area but not even enough to make me think it was bad. I ran my hand over the shaft at the top of the case and there was a little fluid there so I assume I have a bad seal up there and when the truck is inclined I spill a little but you cannot see any fluid loss by looking at the dip stick.
I finally went back in an did a search on the model and came up with pages of BS that I do not understand. After a about an hour I got back in the truck and drove it around the block and had no issues. I have driven to work the past 2 days with no problems other than the screech occasionally. Who is the transmission master on the GS that can lead me in the direction I need to go about repairing this or burning it to the ground?

I know dodge has had a lot of probelms with their auto trannys in the past and Im not sure if they ever really got em fixed. But with your tranny hitting 230 you got her really hot. If I was you I would change the fluid and filter and see if that will help. You probably should check your tranny cooler to make sure it is getting plenty of air through it to keep your fluid cool. I have a chevy diesel and my tranny temps never gets over 80 degrees above outside air temp.

Also if you have a tunner on it I would suggest going back to stock tune or whatever the lowest tune you can go to. Kinda sounds like you have burned some clutches up a little.

Make sure you warm her up first and give her a little foreplay before hand.

Might give James Northum a call at JTT transmissions in Midlothian. He does a lot of upgrades on transmissions in the diesel trucks. # is 972 467 3702.

Sounds like one of the solenoids in the tranny is acting up. If it starts to free wheel like that again, get off it quick and shut it down of else you'll burn the whole thing up pretty quick.

The problem that Dodge had prior to the 6.7 was a pressure solenoid that would go bad and cause it to flutter shift between 1st and second and sometimes not at all. It was an easy fix but Dodge charges around 700 for the solenoid and the transducer that had to be replaced at the same time. You might consult Dodge on any issues and or mods they have on their bulletins

And you can buy both those for $125 from about any trans shop and do it yourself in about 30 minutes.

His 08 has the newer 68rfe. It has 2 filters, one of them is a screw on type, at least in my 2010 there are 2 (same trans). Id change the fluid and both filters and see what it does.

Indeed you can. I got in a bind in Burnet Texas and they tried to stick it to me at the Dodge dealer for 980.00. I told them to button it back up and I would call AAA for a tow.
