    Anyone Else A Watch Fan?

Talk about a work of art...

    #2
Wow.... what a very intricate piece of engineering and functional art. I love a fine watch and marvel at some in my small collection but the workings of that watch are incredible. The condition of the watch as well as the condition of the provenance speaks volumes about the man that owned it. He surely must have known that the watch was destined to be worth a fortune. I can easily see tis watch selling for well over 2 million.
To only be so lucky some day.

And to do it without modern tools. Wow. I wonder just how many separate parts there are in that thing?

There is a patek made in 1902 that sold for $4,000,000 and estimated at $800,000 that was thought to be the oldest so this is a new game.

Can anyone even approach this level of craftsmanship today?

I bet there are a very small handful of watch makers left that can, but not many.

I've been a mechanic my whole life, and this looks like a nighmare to work on, let alone engineer. I got into watches for a few years, though I've never owned an all mechanical watch. I had a pretty long wish list that I knew would never come true. Amazing work.
