Great stuff! First time hearing this from that angle. If the numbers are correct I would definitely give a lot of credence to this article. As most know I am attempting to do a bison hunt this coming fall out West.......this article only re-ignites my passion to chase this majestic creature with my bow!!!! Thanks for posting!!!

Good read. I enjoyed that. Too bad the passenger pigeons are all gone. I love wing shooting pigeon!

Three government paid Hunters to kill all the buffalo so they could starve out the Indians.

Good article and makes perfect sense. If a handful of runners could kill off 60 million buffaloes spread out over half the U.S. and Canada in a few years with single shots and muzzleloaders then it seems plausible that an army of Texans with modern rifles should be able to wipe out our paltry 3-4 million wild hogs in no time.

I do wish he could have included more details. He fails to mention the role of fences in the demise of the buffalo. Buffalo are entrapped by barbed wire, unlike most species in America. Also buffalo were killed much quicker than other game animals because of the herd's tendency to stick around after one is killed. Many more buffalo could be killed in a short time than, say, deer or hogs. But I see the point of the article and agree with its idea that hunter's were not THE end of the buffalo.

                            Great analogy

Yes. Buffalo would not run at the sound of a rifle. So, you could sit on a hill and literally kill dozens of them in a day.
