First time I've had a bluegill hit a bait that big.

Those goggle eyes are the jack russels of the perch world. I love catching them with a fly rod and a bass popper.

That's a green sunfish....much bigger mouth than a bluegill. We called them "creek perch" growing up. They are an awesome little fish....the best flathead bait on the planet IMO!

Light weight Fly rod and popper equals good fight.

That's a goggle eye or warmouth, not a bluegill.

I stand corrected- I don't know the species of sunfish. I am pretty sure however, that using any of the sunfish species in Texas as bait is illegal.

They should be in their spawn now. Very aggressive when on the beds. Good eating and a blast on light tackle.
