    Primos or Covert?

Trying to decide between Primos Truth Cam 35 Ultra and Covert MP6 IR. What say you Green Screen?

    #2
I have one Primos Truth Cam 35 Ultra, does okay, but was not impressed with nightime video. But for what it is, it does good. I would look at the resolution of each, with the cost comparison, and then go for which is the most reasonable.

Covert. I have all different price points of cameras from both companies and the Coverts are better. Period.

The reviews I'm reading tend to agree.

I have an assortment of Coverts. The Code Red offers the best all around performance. I am bit disappointed with The MP6 IR night pics.

Chasingame has a very favorable review on the MP6 IR. I think for $120 it might be the way to go. They also love the 35 Ultra. Price is an issue for me so I'm down to these 2.

Black flash from a reputable trail cam company for under $120. I'd consider this if I was looking.

Either that, or the Covert MP6 black for $130 when they get them back in stock here.

It seems the black flash cams have poorer quality night pics than red IR, but I've had too many videos of deer seeing the red IR flash on my cams and not liking it.

Any particular reason it's between those two?

If you're open to suggestions, at that price point I'd look at a Bushnell. Incredible battery life, good pictures, and very small size. I have two and I love them.

Bushnell is having problems with the selector switch. Got rid of all mine because of it.

What kind of life do these cameras have. My Moultrees are giving out at about the 3 year mark. I've go 7 of them and I think it's time for a change. My main points are life of camera and life of batteries. Picture quality is important but I need a set of batteries to last a few months and the camera to last more than a couple of years.

I can't comment on long term reliability. I've had one camera for 2 years and the other for less than a year. Battery life obviously depends on how many pictures are taken but mine have lasted upwards of 6 months. They use AA batteries. I can't comment on the switch problems as I have not had this problem.

Trail cam technology, like most electronics, changes very rapidly. If you are looking for trail cams with years of proven operation in the field, then you are going to have to find them used on ebay because they aren't made anymore. They will also be much larger than today's cameras, will use D-cells or C-cells instead of AA's, and will be bigger power hogs, too. Most new factory cams come with a 1-year warranty, so that's about the only insurance you're going to get. Some brands have better reputations for longevity than others, but even that changes from year to year. For a while, Moultrie's were crap. Now their newer models are getting much better reviews for reliability and performance. When Bushnell first came out with the Trophy Cam it had lots of problems. Now many people love them. If you wait to see if a cam lasts 3+ years in the field it will be obsolete and probably no longer for sale by the time you decide to buy it. Every year the battery life gets better as the technology improves.

I've had a Primos Truth Cam 35 and it has serviced me well. I liked the Covert reviews. Other than that, no reason. Just trying to keep it simple.
