I was in the navy in the 90's. I don't think I would of made a comment like that, even then. I'd like to see that guy say that with a few marines around.

I don't think anybody is quailified to share an opinion or to pass judgement of the service branches unless you served in all.

Every single branch depends on the other during war time...just like your body. Some of your make-up is more vital than others if they get injured, but you need all your pieces working in harmony to stand tall and fight at your 100% finest abilities.

Read the book FLYBOYS and you will clearly see how the ramp up of a mostly non-existant U.S air power went to the full blown superiority of owning the air in record time. Most can now say it was the deciding factor of winning wwii & many top officials fiercly argued it could be done without & all we needed was sea and ground forces. There was some serious bickering how the resources focused so much on air power.

Having said that & what the book is really all about, still the author goes onto to mention without the Navy droppping off the first responders (Marines) to the most dangerous places to clean house after the air forces did what they could so the Army & Navy could re-engineer the islands for the next stepping stone. Sea & land forces alone for the Pacific in particular would have been dismal.

The guy who wrote that piece is simply a jack wagon and I understnd what he may be saying for those who are undecided and trying to pick a service, but imho I do no think it is fair to 'grade the branches' in regards to service to your country.

Putting the Marines at the bottom is simply insulting to me...Notice he does not mention any bit of research on the percentages of SEAL's that came from the Marines vs other branches.

Again, I think the idea any branch pecking order list is just stupid, but putting the Marines at the bottom just kinda sticks in my craw when history tells you what hell they went through during war time to defend this nation.

Thank you to all vets and your sacrifices that allow me to speak my mind and the right to express my opinion opposed to the original OP article. I think that ties it up for this red blooded american & remember we always have your back if any enemies foreign or domestic hit our dirt.

Good post Artos. My grandfather was in the pacific during ww2 (Navy). My dad was an army medic in Vietnam. And my brother and I were both Marines. I have respect for all the branches. But I have a few daily reminders (aches, pains, tattoos) of the Corps. So I'm usually tooting that horn.

I have always said the military is what you make out of it. Some guys loved it, some hated every second. I loved it most of the time but hated it sometimes. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

And what is he talking about "No job guarantee" for the USAF????

I came in guaranteed the job I wanted because I tested for it as a civilian and seeked it. Anybody else, you were given five choices of the jobs you wanted. If the weren't available, you didn't have to enlist
