    Pachmayr vs. LimbSavers

I posted earlier about a hunting rifle for my wife and was convinced I should try loading her .270 w/reduced recoil rounds and adding a recoil pad. I was looking at the Limbsavers pads on their website and saw that they (slip on and all other types) run around $35. The guy at the local gun shop has some Pacmayr recoil pads of the slip on type for $15. I was leaning toward slip on since it just seems more convenient. The Pacmayrs sound like a good deal, but I thought I'd find out if any of y'all have had experience that would lead you to favor one over the other. Thanks.

If this rifle is going to be for your wife and she's the one that will be shooting it,I would highly recommend taking her and the rifle to a gunsmith and let him fit the rifle for her.She will be happy with the way it fits her and will be able to shoot it better as well. You know if Momma is happy, everybody is happy .As far as which brand is the best,I have a Pachmayr Decellerator pad on my 7mag and like it very well, but Limbsaver makes a good product too and I don't think you'll go wrong with either one as long as the rifle is a good fit for her.

Like spike said I would have it cut if it is for her, putting a slip on will just lengthen the pull and may make it uncomfortable as well increase the recoil sensation. I like the limbsaver over the pach.

I don't really think it would be necessary with those loads. You may have her shoot it first then decide. I didn't put one on my .270 and my 12 yo daughter has no problem with it. Also if she is small the gun may not fit her very well with the extra length of the pad.

If recoil is an issue, I'd recommend one of these. I have it on my 450 Marlin, and it tames that mule down nicely. Made from the same material as shoe orthodics for feet problem, story is one guy at a shoe orthodics company made a mold and one for himself, his friends saw it and wanted one, and it became a product, then picked up by Cabelas for retail.
