    ECHO trimmer help. . .

Need some help with my ECHO trimmer/edger. Basically, what is happening is I used the trimmer to trim around the house. It took me forever to get it started and it never does that. After I got done, I stopped it and changed to the edger attachment and the thing would start up and then die, eventually not starting at all.

I primed the bulb, repeatedly, but no gas would stay in the buld. It is almost like there was no pressure in the primer bulb, but there is gas in the tank. Can anyone help me out as to why gas would not be staying in the bulb and getting to the motor?

    Thanks in advance.

You either have a break in the little hoses that feed gas from the tank to the bulb on to the carb or a hole in the bulb. For some reason it is sucking air. Start there..

That is what I thought. I didnt see a hole in the bulb though. Is it possible that there is a clog in the little hoses? Where can I get replacement hoses or a replacement bulb? I know I can get them from ECHO, but I am sure they are an arm and a leg.

      Thanks for the help

There could be a clog in the hose.
I'd check at Lowe's or Home Depot and maybe a Sears if you have one close.
Also, I've started running either premium fuel or the pre-mixed fuel that you can buy from STIHL, ECHO, etc in all of my small engines. To my understanding, it has less ethanol and certainly less water.

A good Echo dealer will have a hose 'kit' that will replace the hoses, fuel filter and the little stopper looking thing in the fuel tank where all the hoses go into it. Go ahead and pick up a new primer bulb at the same time if yours is a few years old, easier to change everything at once. It will be maybe $20 in parts for all that.

Go ahead and check your sparkplug and air filter while you're in maintenance mode. Pick up new ones if needed.

Fresh fuel is a biggie. I use the Echo 2 stroke oil, it has some fuel stabilizer in it already, so it is worth the little bit more

Keep in mind that these tools were intended to be run on 89 octane fuel at minimum. I run 92-93 in mine. They all run like a champ.

I have a shed full of Echo tools: edger, line trimmer, blower, chainsaw. My edger is the oldest tool at over 15 years old. Starts by the 2nd pull everytime.

They make a cheap little gas line replacement kit. My 2001 Echo is still running like brand new, but I had to replace the line last summer. I think it was only 5-6 bucks. It's a one beer beer job...but who really ever just has one?

All of my primer bulbs have cracks and holes in them...won't stop em from starting. One of them is missing all together...Betcha the exhaust pipe is stopped up.If it has a screen, pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliars. If its hooded, poke it out with a small screwdriver.

Another issue I had that was similar was the gas basically went bad after just a month or two. The ethanol is bad in gas nowadays. I had the same problem with the echo weedeater. Start putting fuel stabilizer in my gas container and all my equipment run smooth now even on gas a month old. Another friend of mine had same problem with same weedeater. Did the same thing and runs great now.

Bet it is too. My son has a straight shaft Echo that I bought in 1986 when he was 8 yo, still runs well.

Thanks for all the help. I will check everything mentioned above.

I do use premium gas and I use the TruFuel from Lowe's (pre-mixed stuff). If I dont use that, I use premium gas.

Hoses, primer bulb, spark plug... All good suggestions.

Put a little Startron Enzyme Fuel treatment in your Fuel (about a quarter cap full). Try to start it and then let it sit overnight. This will help clean things out.

I put a little Startron in any fuel I'm storing. Ethanol in fuel nowadays turns the fuel to junk in less than a month around here unless it's treated.

Home Depot sells a lot of parts and kits for Echo. That's where I recently bought mine.

If Home Depot doesn't have what you need, Bobby Jennings, Georgetown Outdoor Power on 3rd street will.
