I think we need to start a "People of Craigslist" similar to the "People of Walmart" website.

This Saturday I put a camper for sale. I had responses from over 20 people on Saturday and Sunday. Here is the summary.

The first guy was the "My Friend" guy that like to ask questions. Everything he said started and ended with "My friend". His typical question would go something like this.."My Friend, let me ask you a question........". I would wait for the question. If I didn't say anything he would just sit there. I had to say "ok" to get him to ask the question. It got old.

I had a guy that said he would buy it sight unseen if I would drive it 1 1/2 hours to him.

I had 2 emails offering half sight unseen.

I had a huge description with the max amount of pictures and I had one guy come out and spend 1 1/2 hours looking it over only to tell me he needed 2 beds and not just one. Maybe it took him that long to realize there was only 1 bed.

I had a family drive out 1 hour each way and when they got out of the car, they walked around it once and said they were not interested. There is nothing wrong with the exterior so I have no idea what they saw. They didn't even want to go inside.

I had a guy just show up even though I only put my road in the craigslist map and didn't have the address. I also put my cell phone number and said to call because it is on our land and I would have to meet them there. Luckily for him, I was there doing some work. Spent all the energy to find it without an address, but didn't realize it was only a 16 footer.

I had a guy that told me he would be there between 10 and 10:30 Saturday morning and then he was mad when he called at noon and I told him he missed his appointment and someone else was on their way to see it.

I got several texts that they wanted it and I needed to call them.

I had one show up without a tow hitch to look at a camper.

They weren't all bad, there were 2 or 3 that were normal people.

I am sure some of you have seen worse, but it made me not want to sell anything else on craigslist.

CL people amaze me. While selling my BBQ pit recently..I had a guy tell me why he was offering me less than half of my asking price...but making sure to let me know it was a fair deal..he then followed that with I should sell it to him so I don't have to deal with any of the crazies on CL...Amazing! I just laugh and do not respond to most. I also filter them out with dummy email address. I never meet at my house and don't give out my phone number...I would much rather sell or buy from here.

He says Durn I just sold it to a guy. I see the two and some guy is going up to it. I remind him that he said nobody else was looking at it and blah blah blah. He said well I didn't know if you were really coming so. ....

I made sure I didn't do this to anyone. I only took one appointment at a time. It did waste my entire weekend, but I didn't screw anyone. I put them in line and told them I would call them when it was their turn.



I forgot about the two different guys that complained about he refrigerator not working. They acted like they didn't know. I had 6 sentences in my post about the refrigerator not working and what I had tried to do to get it to work. I also said I am listing it at $1200 under blue book because the refrigerator doesn't work and it needs these small items, then I listed them.

I sold a motorcycle on cl and the guy texted me for 6 months asking stupid questions like when should he change the oil, what kind, etc.

Had another guy buying something else. Told him to meet me at the racetrac off 820/377 in watauga. He kept asking where I was, and he didn't see me. He went to the racetrac off 820/377 in Burleson!

I've had some emails like that and flat out tell them in no uncertain terms, "If you can't speak or write the English language properly, get lost!"

I didn't get any of the fraud type like above, but mine was listed for less than 24 hours.

Had a guy show up in my driveway the other day. He was looking over my fence and I think he would have opened my gate had my lab not been on the other side. Turned out to be a guy I sold a truck to from CL 18 months earlier. Said he wanted to find out what kind of oil I was running in it. Had he not had his teen daughter with him I probably would have let loose on him.

I recently bought an extension ladder off CL. I asked the guy on the phone if everything worked fine, and he said, "Yes." I drove 40 miles one-way to get it(it was a good deal, and I was going about 15 miles from him anyway). Once I get there, I pulled the rope to extend it, and the rotten rope broke in my hands. He wasn't even willing to budge $5 on the price, even though he told me everything was fine with it. Basically, he knew I had just burned more than that in gas to get there, so I wasn't going to go home empty handed.

I was trying to sell my boat and let a guy talk me into meeting him at the lake so we could take it for a test ride. He was 30 minutes late and when he got there said that it was the wrong style of boat and he did't want it. Why didn't he look at all the pics I had uploaded on CL? He drove an hour to get there too!

Wow, if i ever sell a boat there will be a deposit required to test drive, just to make sure they are serious. I have learned my lesson on cl. I will not go out of my way for anyone on there. Seems to be full of fakes and scammers. I must of recieved 50 emails and 50 phone calls about a mustang i was selling. One guy called me every day to lowball me like he was someone else. I asked if he had called me the day before and he said no. I said you know i can see your number on caller id right. He hung up and called me from a different number the next day. Also had someone calling asking me to hold it for them because they didnt have all i was asking, i told him my bottom dollar and he didnt even have half of it. Had several ill take its and never showed up to even look at it, several ill come to look at it if you hold it. Oh and i got the ill send you a check for twice your amount, you cash it and keep 2 more thousand for yourself. WHick is a fake bank check scam. Yea the bank will cash it for you, then you get the cops to your house in a couple of weeks asking about the fake check you gave to your bank. THe feds are all over this one. Luckily i didnt have to sell it on cl because my parents bought it the 3 day it was on there. Watch out, they got people that make a living on cl scamming and fishing real people on there.
