How to get rid of fruit flies

So now with garden season in full swing, I have somehow managed to acquire my own swarm of fruit flies and they are all over my fresh veggies. I think they were originally attracted to a tomato that got squashed and I didn't realize it until they were everywhere. Is there a somewhat easy way to kill these things without spraying? Maybe a little trap I can buy?

We've had this problem for the last two summers, and have found the easiest and most effective way to get rid of them is to form a trap... Just get a bowl, put half a banana or apple in the bowl, and then cover the bowl with saran wrap. Lastly, use a fork to poke small holes in the saran wrap. The flies will get in but can't get out... You'll be shocked how many you catch, especially if you place three or four throughout the house!

Outside pests can often be controlled with ladybugs. $9.95 @ Callaway's nursery for a mesh bag of approx. 1500. The ate all of the aphids that were on our roses in less than 24 hours and then they moved to other flowers, herbs, etc.

Inside, apple cider vinegar works well. So does the banana and saran. Also, clean the drain in the sink. That's where they live and breed.

                        Outside, I have no idea.

This. They are almost always in the p trap in your sink. A couple of caps full of bleach every day for about a week usually takes care of the problem.

My wife has a shelf full of potted violets in the front bay window, and occasionally we get a crop of tiny flying insects out of the soil in them. But, they are gone in a couple of days. I like the Saran wrap idea--stole it!

set out a glass with a lil red wine in it. For some reason they will flock to it and you will find then floating.
