    lake fairfeild ?

okay so from what i heard lake fairfield has some good talapia and red fish for being a freshwater lake, ive been wanting to do some bowfishin for talipia but i heard pretty much all the red fish and talipia are wipped out because of the powerplant that kept the water warm shutdown. I know lake TPL out by Resiel had a massive die out of redfish, since the power plant shut down.

does anyone know if lake fairfield still have talipia?

another question is where would another good lak around central texas have talipia to bowfish?

I'll play in your post Branden.. Well, follow along anyways. After my surgery a bowfishin rig is the only bow I'd be able to draw back. I'll go with ya.

I had shoulder surgery a month ago.. I had to sell my bow cuz I can't pull it back until this time next year so I'll cheat and get a sticky string until my shoulder heals up. I gave that release to lee I believe.. After he let me use that tension release with the wrist strap

Started bowfishing lake Fairfield around 1990 or 91. The lake was crystal clear and there were Tilapia everywhere. Over thee years with several droughts, the power plant has pumped so much trinity river water into the lake that it is nolonger clear and very hard to see fish. And it is widely known for tilapia so everyone with a cast net within 100 miles come as often as they can, depleting the fish population.. With lake levels at all time lows for the past 10 years there have been some kind of algae blooms that kill fish in some coves, sometimes twice a year. That also has reduced the number of fish. There are good red drum to be caught. I have never bothered to fool with fishing for them. Fairfield used to be my favorite lake but now it just frustrates me to go. My wife and I went memorial day and shot 2 tilapia. I missed about 20 more though, lol.
I heard that Trading house lake south of Waco has tilapia but have never been.
Fairfield has them, just be sure to take a cast net.

so fairfield wouldnt be a good place to go right now?

when i was a little kid my dad and i always use to fish trading house for reds, but ever since the powerplant shut down there has been a massive die out from what ive been told by few gamewardens and people who have fished that lake for years

There are tilapia just hard bowfishing. At night might be better. i have never bowfished at night so dont really know. I always see other bowfishermen there so maybe i just need to change my methods. If someone has a night fishing rig amé wants a partñer i would be glad to tag along.

5 yrs ago you could shoot 100+ fish a day on Fairfield now the numbers just aren't there. As said the droughts and fish kills have wiped them out and the Vietnamese cast netting for them every 25' around the lake has helped wipe the fish out. We talked to some that spoke decent English and they was there supplying thier restruant in Dallas. The fish can't compete with a net.

I still seen tons this year out there. Havent bowfished there this year though but seen good numbers while fishing. It gets pretty tough bowfishing this late in the year there for talapia. We have our best trips in april and may, then the grass gets to thick.
