    Almost There

I am almost done with the hiring process to become a san antonio firefighter. Yesterday I passed my polygraph test and recieved my conditional letter of employment. All I have left is a physical checkup and a phsyc test. So unless somthing comes up there I should be going into the academy in June.

Good job man! I'm a firefighter as well. Started in a small town, but plan to go to San Antonio or Austin as soon as I get my paramedic. I know how tough the testing is, I tested in a few places before I ended up here, and some towns are tough. But it sounds like you've gotten through the hard part. Keep up the good work, and good luck in the future. Remember, "everyone goes home."

I went through the Houston Fire Dept Academy in 06 and graduated as ff-emt in May of 07. Then got picked up by DHS as a federal officer. Miss HFD, its an awesome job and great career, just glad I still ahev the 20 yr retirement w/ US Customs and Border Protection.

        Good Luck!

Yeah Twigflipper, there is an EMS part in the academy and you will be a paramedic when you get out.

Kinda figered that they did. I work at the DOD fire academy at Goodfellow AFB. They only train to first responder there.

Good luck bro. I hope you run the gauntlet unscathed. I've had my experience with S.A. once. Sounds like you have the scrutiny behind you. I don't know how old you are but my only regret is that I didn't pursue the career sooner. The political B.S. is worth it, you just have to endure it unfortunately. (They have council members to please, you know what I'm sayin') Been at it ten years and it feels like I'm in the 7th grade every third day! You're gonna love it. If you have your letter you're pretty much "golden". Keep us posted. I'm sure there's a few on here with similar experiences. Good luck.
