    Welding / fabrication hourly rate?

I'm building some metal tables for a friends company. He is supplying the material. What would you guys charge per hour?

I work for a fabrication shop and we charge $70 a hour but we are a high volume shop. Some of the smaller 1 and 2 man shops charge anywhere from $35-55.

What's a fair price for YOUR time? If its a friend then maybe even below fair...

Otherwise bid the job an if you bid too high they will go elsewhere or won't hire you again.

My time is VERY valuable. I'm a stay at home dad and get 1 day a week without the kiddo. No one would pay what I value it at :-P

Ill probably do 40 or 45. That would make it roughly $130 per 8' table, with the hours I'm estimating. Thanks guys.

Maybe you should give them a per table price. An hour of your work may not get as much done as an hour of some one more experienced or with more equipment so the rate should not be the same.

I worked in a basic fab shop that charged $35.00/ hour for plain welding on A-36 material. I know run a precision shop that welds several specific metal types with specific weld parameters and post weld tests and I base line at $85.00 plus per hour for welding and excessive fitting or measuring cost significantly more.

Where does you work / skill level fit in?

I'm just a hack, but I do anything in under 3 hours for a flat 30 pack fee. over that is usually whatever you can buy a cheap version for, plus about 40%. Or whatever I feel like that day.

I don't reckon real welders like guys like me.

Guys like you don't bother me one bit Dale. I've taught several of my customers to weld and they all really enjoy it. They still call me for the big stuff. If you think about it, welding is the same as nailing boards together. The real skill set is in the building of some thing quality and doing it fast enough that some one can afford it.

In a shop here you are looking at $75 an hour for welding.

Your situation is a lot different so I don't know what to tell you.
