    D-I-Y blow in insulation

Has anybody done blow in insulation yourself in the attic? If so where did you rent the machine and how difficult of a job was it? Also have you felt any benefits of it?

    Thanks,
    Crazzy

Did it every day for about 6 years. It's not as easy as it looks. Be sure to do it early in the morning and wear a respirator. Be sure to get rulers. You can rent an attic cat from home d.

Buy x amount of bags from lowes and they rent you the machine for a day free! Throw it in the machine it fluffs it up and shoots it out of the hose! As said wear a respirator and a cheap jump suit! Measure depth before with rulers provided or spray paint the 2x4's every once and a while also stay away from your soffits need them Open for air flow still! Stack it up to equal r36/49

It would be about easier on you with someone loading for you.

As said above, I think it's 30 bags at HD or Lowes and the machine is free. B sure to have someone to stay by the machine and feed it while you spray. My buddy rented one and I was the feed guy. He said he could tell a difference if I helped the machine break up the chunks. We did 1500 sq ft in about an hr.

You can use codes to make it easy. Have the guy loading cut on air only while you get up and situated. When your ready for material, repeatedly put your hand over the hose to stop the air. It will make the house jump and your buddy will know to send it. If you want him to stop material, hold your hand over the hose to stop material and he will see it stopped up and the machine will make a loud noise. He will know to stop the material. Hope this helps.

Going to be doing this soon, which type is the cellulose? All I see is the cardboard kind is $10/bag and the white kind is $32/bag

How soon do you want to do it? I have my own machine but I just do it on the side. I don't have a helper so I just charge the price of the material and my labor and I usually have the owner help me...I am assuming you want it done ASAP which I won't be able to help you if thats the case.

Also keep it away from your can lights (recessed lights) it will cause them to overheat. Spraying in isn't to bad especially if you have room to move around. It is a two person job though.

Make sure you get a pole or something that you can tape the hose to. It will allow you to cover many more sq ft without having to move around the attic. Very easy to do. Me and two teenage boys did 1500 sq ft in a little less than 2 hours.
