    Broken toe

Broke my right big toe. Confirmed with an x-ray. Swollen and hurts a lot. Timing is bad because I have a fishing trip to Alaska next week and to Canada the week after. Doctor suggested getting a boot with a really wide toe box so my toe will have more room. I haven't tried putting any kind of shoe on yet because it's still so swelled up. Doctor says 6 weeks to heal before I can be active on it again. Is 6 weeks realistic?

Only if you are a wimp. Suck it up and go.
Hell... I had a heart attack and was at work a week later and ran a 5 K race three weeks later.
Broken toe? Are you for real?

Oh, I'm going. I'm guessing it will delay the healing process, but I'm not missing these trips. Just wondering if anyone else has broken their big toe and how long it took to heal well enough to run again. This is a clean break and the bones are aligned - no surgery required to straighten anything.

Six weeks is right. I broke mine a few years ago. Tape it to your next toe and buy some steel toe boots. You will be good to go. Probably have to limp a week or two but you will be protected.

Honestly I have done it twice. Seems to never heal fully. And, it does take time. Broke mine 5 years ago and it still bothers me. Just tape the heck out of it and do the best you can.

Me too. Tape it and deal with it. Thats all you can do!

Broke my right big toe in June and its still painful some days and very tender. Bang it on anything and you know in a hurry that its not all healed up. Heard several people claim it still bothers them after a few years.

I happened to break the 2nd metatarsal in my left foot in January and thats not much fun either. Dealing with nerve pain from the injury as well. Foot damage really slows ya down.....or maybe I'm just starting to show my age.

Not much you can do for broken toe. Grin and bear it about the best you can do.

Rub some vagisil on it and get back in the game son.

No seriously, I know it hurts like heck. Hope you have a good trip. Better to go fishing with a broken toe than to stay home and work with one.

Tape it good and move on. Just tape it how you want it to set.

Broke my little one once, did not tape it. Now it sticks up and no pair of shoes fit. Got a corn on it that will not go away.

Very good point. No further advice or inspiration needed!
