    Straight Razors

I really want to start using a straight razor. As a kid, my barber would trim with one and I loved it. Does anybody use one still? Special foam/soap? Strap? I love the nostalgia of it and want to pass it down to my boys.

Better get one with a safety guard on it! Then after you get used to it, ou can pull it off. I paid for a shave once, and the dude used a straight razor. I was scared he would chop my head off, but I didn't have to shave again for like 10 days!

    Start here:

The Art of Shaving offers elegant hand-crafted razors & shaving accessories for men. Our unrivaled products will elevate shaving from an act to an art.

yup...I have two. I have a Timor Deluxe (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DE-LUXE-Stra...-/320465210052) and my travel straight razor is one I bought at a barber supply store that uses replaceable blades. Been shaving with 'em for a few years now...love straight razor shaving...

I will probably do my under jaw with a Mach 3 and my cheeks with a straight up until I get the hang of it

YouTube has a lot of videos regarding stropping, honing, general care as well as how to properly shave with one.

don't worry about cutting yourself...because you will...just accept it. Go slow, keep your strokes up & down (side to side is what cuts you) and enjoy it. I was super nervous the first time I shaved with one and it was a pretty crappy shave But I got the hang of it after a few attempts and now I don't even think about it.

I tried it a couple times. By the time I got the bleeding to stop I could have filled up a
16oz. coke bottle. Think now that I'm on blood thinners I would be able to fill a 2 litter bottle...

Interesting thread. My wife offered to give me one. She has a barber's license but doesnt practice anymore. We get along great but it's still too spooky for me to have her that close to my throat with a straight razor.
