How and the heck did he do that? What a knucklehead. Lucky it was a holly wood jump

I think I read that his reserve snagged on something and deployed

My BS meter is pegged. #1 he wasn't moving and he was by the strut on the tailgate of the bird - i.e. what was going to snag the handle? #2 It takes more than just a little tug to get the reserve deploy.

My bet is either he intentionally pulled the handle or he was being very, very, very uncareful. There are two pins that retain the reserve - and they are covered by a flap. The pins are checked prior to boarding the aircraft during JMPI. In theory he could've jiggled both of them free - but he had no equipment on and he was the dang jumpmaster and should be chilling in the back of the plane so there should be no reason this happened.

I was hoping that someone with experience in this area would chime in. The other thing that seemed odd to me is how the guy in the foreground pretty much just stood there and didn't react much at all - like it was planned and he was expecting it.
