    Has hunting lost its "tradition"?????

I remember back years ago when hunting was just about spending time with family/friends. Not about horn size. Razor investments. Yada Yada Yada. Hunting has become to much a commercial sport IMO. lets get back to what it's really all about folks. I remember my dad flipped when it was 1000 dollars for a year round lease in junction. We'd all love that these days. Thank god for family land. It's the last of a dying breed.

You know, it's all about being in the woods for me.
This past weekend in east TX the air was crisp, the wild honey suckle was strong in the breeze. Just seamed like all the senses were peaking. It was one of the best times in the woods in a long time.

It lost it many years ago for most folks. I can remember a good lease in Leola, Arkansas at @$150 back in the 70'-80's. Two weeks of hunting, if it had any antler at all-legal.

It is about being in the woods but inflation effects everyone, land owners included.

The trouble started when when it became a "sport".

It is exactly what you make of it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Every opening weekend me, my 70 year old father, and now my daughter spend 4 days at first point bowhunting.
It's an absolute tradition and we have more fun hanging out, telling stories, and being together than we do hunting. Here's a pic from a couple of years ago.

I hunt on family land too. Just wish it was my family. More money = more antler. Say adios to skill and determination. Nothing beats time spent in the brush. Good luck

I hunt on my land with my dad and best friend. Sometimes my son goes or I take one of my grandkids. We seldom shoot anything but the memories I will carry to my grave.

Some folks including me want to kill the biggest buck in the woods, I do remember when I first started deer hunting, some of the best times of my life and I will never forget them, anymore I would just as soon take someone on my property hunting, let them take deer that i would not want to take. It is all about friends and family, cherish the moment.

Becoming more of a sport than a family tradition. I'd have to agree with you there!

It would be great if leases didn't cost so much but they do because money isn't worth much of anything anymore. Just compare the cost of a lease with other things that didn't cost as much then that they do now. I don't think that lease prices are out of line.

Hunting has always been fun, but the best part of it was the b.s. around the campfires and other shenanigans that went on in camp. I haven't been in that situation in probably ten years now and miss it. It is certainly different when you hunt at home. Of course, if I allowed it, there are more willing hunters than the land will provide for on our place. There are lots of years that I pass on a deer so that some young guy can put some meat in the freezer for his family. But I do enjoy a crisp morning hiding in a bush waiting on the deer to wander by.

I miss the old days. I'm not convinced today's "sport" is taking things in the right direction for its longevity. I never considered hunting a sport it's so much more than that.

I don't know where you hunt by my lease is all about the camplife, family, friends and fun....we also measure horns. It doesn't lessen our experience.

You can do both without excluding one or the other.

I don't consider hunting a sport either. There is no ball...well, except the bucks and I'm not after those..
