I used to set up a can at the base of the trap so that it would slap it on its way down, you could hear it from the living room when it was in the pantry. Made for good fun when you heard the can pop.

I use peanut butter and mix a thread in with it so they end of tugging it. Some of those suckers can get the bait without setting the trap but the peanut butter thread trips it every time
