    MLD Management Program ???

Has any of ya'll hunted on Private MLD hunting lease's? I have found a spot and wanted to see all the pros and cons about this program. I know all the basic ground rules, the manager told me. Is there anything else I should know?

I personally don't see any cons. It is a great program for managing your herds.

If you don't like to take harvest data or do surveys you are going to hate it...

      Otherwise... it's a great program.

All pros from what I've experienced...unless you just don't like shooting deer.

Well...there is one downside...you can really get tired when it's time to make 4 or 5 hundred pounds of sausage LOL.

No down side I can think of.... maybe a little extra paper work. But it's definitely worth it!

Exactly. We have 5200ac. under MLD and without it we wouldn't have been able to manage the herd the way that it needed to be managed.

I hope you enjoy shooting does, or know some friends who like to shoot them.

Fixed it for you. Especially with rifle hunters. Our list of hunters we let shoot does is very small because it seems no matter how much you lecture rookies *Look at their heads, look again, and then look AGAIN!...if they act stupid it's probably not a doe!* it seems like every time "friends" hunt, nubbin bucks get shot.

well if you want a down side... those extra months of hunting can really add to the corn and gas bill.... oh yea... all those guns shooting in October is a little strange.

                        Price of MLD lease... 1500.00
Price of corn for year... 1000.00
Price of trail cam ... 300.00
Not using your deer tags for the deer you just shot.... Priceless.

Oh yea... one time I had a game warden check my Lic while hog hunting lake cooper. He make fun of me for not having shot any deer the past year... but they were all MLD deer not on my tag.

Yep, it starts with the opening of bow season and ends the end of February. A LONG season. By the end of the season, I'm just dog tired of traveling and showering twice a day and washing tons of camo and getting up at 4:30 to make a 6 to 10 mile trek to my blind where I'll be covered up in bucks and having to gut a lot of deer and having to pay a taxidermist money every year and piling bunches of meat in the freezer and having to buy so many packs of broadheads and, well you get the point. It's tiring.

Great program and good opportunity become more educated on whitetail management.
