Here's drake 24 hours after splitting his ear, the bleeding is under control except if he works his ear out of the bandage and shakes it. Click image for larger version

Poor guy, he looks miserable. That look on his face just screams, "You shoulda' let me bleed to death, woulda' been better than this goofy thing on my head! Now I can't even hear anything!" He will heal up and be good as new before you know it. It's amazing to me how animals deal with pain and how fast the heal up.

The ashes are cold whether from cigarette or wood. They provide a framework for the blood to clot to. They are not hot so they don't burn. Notice I did not say COALS.

Poor pup. I've always used cornstarch. There is also some stuff you can get to help clot it but they're expensive and messy to get off. It forms a gel. I had a greyhound that would split his tail open usually in a corner and that sucker would bleed. It would be so bad that when he would wag his who'll body blood would get on the wall. They're really thin skinned and i used cornstarch.

Ok so I have in and had to take him to the vet, everytime we would wrap his head he would get his ear out of the wrap one way or another. Took him to the vet and put 5 stitches in and taped hi ear. Between 2-3 weeks stitches will come out.Click image for larger version

                Good choice on the stitches.

Had one of my hog dogs take a tusk through the ear and into the side of his face. His face healed way before his ear did. It took his ear over 2 months to heal. His ear bled like crazy all the time. He would shake his head and it would start bleeding again.
