Ah! She's bred right and she'll give you her all! I always preferred a filly over a colt; they try harder. The extra trouble will be worth it. Dun it produced better fillies than colts anyway. (I would know, I worked for Sally Brown, owner of Hollywood Jac)

Awww as much as I cuss my mares i think they give you more and are more competitive. I have a foundation bred yearling filly that I can't wait to start. She just turned a year old on the 6th so i have to wait awhile.

Will you do imprint training with her? I always started mine the day they were born, I think it makes a big difference.

Nice. Personally I almost always ride mares. I have never had an issue with them getting the work done.

My dad always said if you were gonna ride mares you needed at least 10. That way you would always have at least one that was fit to ride.

Congrats. She has enough cow in her to have horns.

                          Nice.
Always wondered why folks didnt want fillies or hefiers. Gramps always told me that was money year in and year out. Where a steer was a one shot and done.

LOL that is true! I have 3! One of my mares comes into heat every 21 days. Not 20 or 22 days, every 21 and is the biggest *****. She stands in the pature covered in sweat with her ears pinned for 7 to 8 days, even during winter (minus the sweating). Her first cycle this spring she was in heat for 16 days. I was about to call the vet. I think she was trying to set a record. I felt so bad for her, she came back in a week later. I had hoped it would get better after she had her baby last year but it didnt help. The other mare I ride (the one in my avatar) I never know because she acts the same every day. Thank GOD!

I don't know what y'all notice about your mares but all the mares I have owned (15+) have been very bold, my bay mare would charge or stomp something into the ground before she would run from it.
