Great attitude and pretty smart (despite the way they look at you).. I don't track with mine but there is not a place you can hide from them inside or out. They smell everything. They do get big which can be a pain to leave while your hunting. Wonderful companions as well. Good looking pup.

The problem I see with using a bloodhound, is its sheer size

They are awesome animals. Just dont think they are lazy (always laying on the front porch of the house like movies depict). They need a lot of excercise and room to roam.

Bought my daughter one for her 13th B-day last Feb. Mollie is now just over a year old. Sweet dog, a little timid, no aggression at all. About 98% of the time I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for her, the other 2% of the time she has her nose to the ground tracking. She has the best nose I have ever seen on a dog. If she will just grow out of the dumb puppy stage. The only problem I see with her is if she finds a live animal at the end of her trail. She's Gone.

Only thing is, find a breeder that still breeds for tracking. There are many bloodhounds bred for show and they have been bred for every characteristic EXCEPT the ability to track.

I'm looking at buying a Bavarian Mountain Hound from Germany. Hounds are great tracking dogs, like many breeds but its all in the specific practices of the breeder you choose. Good luck!
