Bet with a lot of black eyed peas in the deer you would definitely smell them before you see them.

We feed corn/soy mix and the deer seem to love it.

Not sure if there is an advantage. It was recommended to us by Bode so we are trying it. The deer seem to really like it but I dont think they like it anymore than other straight protein!

I was just wondering about the bulk of peas compared to corn. Are they comparable in weight? I would think 50lbs of dry peas would take up a lot more room than 50lbs of corn?

Should feed from a spin feeder well too. If thats right....it may be better than pea gravel!

There are several issues with BEP's in spincast feeders: Any moisture will turn the peas into an ungodly goo, with a stench to match; The protein level of peas is generally considered to be "too hot" for deer. If i remember correctly the protein % of peas approaches, or may be greater than, 30%; The peas usually are split, and don't throw very well out of spin cast feeders. If used, generally, they should be used along with something else. I've used them with mixed results. They seem to be an acquired taste.

I know peas are in the 30% protein range. We have them mixed with 16% protein. So far the deer love them and are knocking them out! Ive heard from a couple of people that you might get more little kickers when feeding the peas but tgats probably BS! I'll let yall know in a year or so!
