Shimano or lews if you plan on doing any saltwater fishing. The bass pro shops and pflueger reels for around 100.00 are pretty good and several years ago bass pro shops bought out pflueger so that is who makes the bass pro reels. I have tried most all the reels on the market and those are the only ones I would recommend. I have an original Lews speed spool from the early 80s still going strong and never had any repairs done to it. All of my salt water reels are the green Shimano curados and I oil them up once a year and when I get in from fishing I dunk them in a five gallon bucket of water and have had no problems with them.
