Started work on my new laminate flooring today

Kaitlin and I decided to use some of our tax return this year to put new flooring in our living room and hallway. The carpet was bad when we bought the house, steam cleaners made it look better, but it didn't last. When you add onto that the fact that her little dog thinks it's okay to mark every corner as his, we just decided it was time to get rid of the carpet. Today, i ripped up the old carpet, working on tack strips now. Going to be laying the floors next weekend after I paint the base boards and trim. Wish me luck and I'll post pics when it's done. I've never done the hard laminate, just the vinyl peel and stick planks, so this will be a learning experience.

Good luck. Good decision with the laminate as we have 2 little ones and 2 pets and not one scratch after 3 years! My in-laws went with bamboo at the same time and they've got several noticeable scratches already! Here's mine, I went with the 6 inch wide strips.Click image for larger version

Did laminate in my house, living room and three bedrooms. It was a great decision. It is very easy as you have about a 1/4 of error that can be covered up by the trim. Don't put it in to tight as the floor will shrink and swell...

Helped a cousin install laminate in his home a few years back. Turned out really nice and clean. Good luck

That's one of the reasons we choose laminate. I knew natural material would scratch with the big dogs on it.

Well, today was the day, got them all installed, all that's left is shoe molding, transitions to the carpet and tile that we left, and painting the trim. Looks like a whole new house! The dogs weren't sure about it until they dropped a toy on it. They're cool with it now.

We are thinking about doing this to our upstairs. I'm horrible at doing things like this so have my doubts. Let me know how hard the transition areas to the carpet are to do. That scares me the most.

I'm thinking the transitions will be easy. The hard part was getting up under the door frames. No problem if you have a seam in the doorway, but of the door I'd in the middle of a plank....not so easy.

It's super easy, man. Transitions can be glued down with Liquid Nails or a similar product. PM me with any questions and I'll be happy to help.
