    Spin Cast feed

Due to rising cost of corn and soybeans we are considering using this stuff. We currently feed a 50/50 mix of corn and roasted soybeans out of our spin cast feeders. However, we recently found this stuff at Surefed in Brady. It is a 30% protein pellet that is rain guarded, and the pellets are basically cut in half so they feed through the spinner feeders. It has some regular corn mixed in to the pellets, giving you a total protein content of 20%. It is called Spin Cast and it is produced by Surefed Feeds. Has anyone used it? If so what were your experiences? Does it actually work through the spinner feeders, and do your deer eat it? This stuff is $7.20 a bag. This would save us about $1.20 a sack over soybeans/corn.

I have not looked at that product by Surefed, but have talked to Terry Pluenneke(Wildlife Specialist for Surefed) at great length about choosing a protein for our ranch.

He is a heck of a nice guy and I am sure would answer any questions you might have. His number is 325-456-6592.

I've seen it at the TTH show. Problem with it has always been cost. Like the Golden Nuggets, it cost as much as regular portein. Nuggets are only 14 percent. I fed them mixed with corn before they got so proud of them. The 20 percent spincast nuggets, if they are within reason of corn and if the deer eat them, might be a great alternative. May have to pic up a few sacks and mix with the corn in my feeders if that price if close.

They are sorta like Bode feeds. Their choices of protein is overwhelming.

I mix protein 22% with hydro loc and corn, with no ill effects.

It's basically the same as you are describing.

I haven't used the surefed product but I do use an equivalent product from lonestar and I haven't had any problems. I have also used Purina protein pellets in my spin-casters and haven't had any problems just adjust the plate clearance accordingly.

All the protein that we feed is from Surfed in Brady.. I have not tried the spin cast pellets, but I may next time out..

On their website, they have about 6 20% blends. I guess I'd just have to ask them.

Any reason for that particular blend? I guess percentages of ingrediants and individual ingrediants may vary. It's a buck cheaper than the Big Rack I'm feeding. May have to swing by on my way to the ranch next week. Maybe give it a try.

I met a man there at the feed store and that was the blend that he fed. He showed me some pics and told me that the deer had really come along way(body weight & Horns) since he started feeding it.

That is what I started out feeding and have not had a reason to change yet.

That is the one that Terry suggested for us.

Once we get all of our protein feeders in place, we are gonna get them to deliver it in bulk into our feeders.

What kind of price did they give you for bulk delivery. We wouldn't need it put into the feeders. We have a bulk trailer they could unload into. We're about 70 miles from brady.
