    Batteries in parallel question............

I am fixing to wire up my trolling motor in parallel. (2) 12 Volts + to + / - to - to gain longer AMP time.

question is do I run a "splitter" off the (2) positives and then run the positive off of the trolling motor and draw of of both batteries at same time or do I hook to one battery and let them draw from each other? I "could" purchase a Perko crossover witch and switch over when needed?

    Anyones input would be appreciated!

I would think you would want to switch between them when needed. We always did this when bowfishing. That let us know that we were half way done for the night when the first battery for the trolling motor was dead.

texag93...kinda what I was thinkin, but trying to go cheap and not buy the switch for switcin over. Prefer not to be switchin wires on the water.
      Thank for the reply!

I would go with a switch, that way when one dies, you still know you got the otherone and start planning accordingly. If the are wired together, you end up using both up with out thinking about it.

But if you wire them parallel- just jump from one to the next to the motor.

Yes, by all means the switch. I thought you were meaning hooking them up in parallel and using both at once and when they are dead, they both are dead. I like to know when one is dead, I still have another fully charged.

A recurve or compound will get the job done. I like both but prefer the compound.

              and cheaper isn't always better.

If you get into bowfishing and do it at night under lights with a generator, you can get a power inverter to connect to your troller battery and it will stay fully charged all night. It is NOT a charger, it is a 120 to 12 volt power converter, and will run your troller by itself. You just need a battery in the circuit to act as a filter or reservoir or sorts. I run a 24 volt one on my bowfishing boat, and it is great to be able to run all night and still have full power on your troller.

I was going to mention an RV inverter but he didn't have a generator. When I get set up for bowfishing, that is the way I will go for sure.
