    which Glock and why?

I am looking into getting a Glock and I was coonfingering some at BPS. I would like some opinions. I want a subcompact. I really thought I had my mind set on the slim 36 but it is definitely larger framed than the 27. I am not opposed to the 40 Cal but I really thought I would like a harder hitting 45. How does the 10mm stack up against these cals? And how hard is it to find ammo for the 10? Opinions and feedback is greatly appreciated.

I have had a few Glocks and the 10mm is the way to go. Its ballistally similar to a 41mag but with 12 rounds in the mag. One of my dumbest moments in life was selling my 10mm Glock.

If I couldn't have a 10mm then I would go with the Glock 23. Its a sub compact in .40 cal and holds 13 rounds. I carry a G23 everyday for my carry gun. As long as you have a round chambered it will go bang everytime you pull the trigger. My G23 is also very accurate out to 40 yards, which is a pretty **** long poke for an off the shelf autoloader.

I love my 27 and it conceals nicely with an MTAC holster.

IMO pistol accuracy is more about the shooter than the firearm.

Thats true, but the worlds best shooter will still shoot mediocre with a crappy gun. Most guns shoot much better than the operator can use them. But crappy guns do exist and some people choose to use them.

I consider Glock to be the number one pistol in the world because of all the abuse I have put my Glocks through they have never failed and always put the first round where I want it.

          My priorities for pistols are

Reliability. Dont carry a gun that might fail.
Accuracy. I intend to hit to kill with my first shot everytime.
Power. I like powerful guns. But a .22 in the head makes em dead too. the worlds most powerful pistol won't help you if you miss. As my all knowing drill instructor taught us. Two in the head makes them dead , but there is nothing wrong with overkilling them!!!! Have confidence in these three areas and you can walk away from any battle. Thats just what was brainwashed into me in the service and one of the few things I believe in.

Have you looked at the Springfield XD line?

Correct. When we are talking about self defense pistols, there is no modern firearm of a popular brand that is not accurate.

We are talking minute of scumbag not target shooting. Rock River has a 9mm and a .45ACP that they guarantee will shoot 1.5" at 50 yards. That is some great stuff. When you are trying to defend yourself at 10 yards (or more likely 10 feet) and shooting at a man's chest that is at least 12" wide, do you need that kind of accuracy? Even if you had one of the super accurate pistols, in an actual combat shooting, do you have time to take advantage of its bench rest capabilities? Obviously not. If you are shooting a bowling pin match or competition target shooting, then such guns might be desirable. In real life self defense, pistol accuracy is way overblown. I can take a Glock or my M&P .40 from 7 yards and on a good day, shoot in the size of a quarter. How accurate does the pistol need to be?

Look at the Springfield XDs. I picked one over the glocks.

I agree with everything dahmer said, especially about the 10mm. I have a Glock 29 in 10mm that I carry a lot in the summer because my Kimber tends to rust in the summer. The 29 will be exactly the size of the G30 which is a compact model, not subcompact. I have no problem concealing it.

The ballistics of the 10mm are superior to the 40 S&W (short & weak ) and the 45 ACP of which I am a huge fan. They are really impressive with Double Tap ammo. As far as ammo availability, I get all of my practice ammo at the gun show 500 round at a time. Its reasonable but not cheap. I use Double Tap 165 grain Gold Dots as my defense ammo. They poenetrate deep and expand to over 1" in ballistic gelatin.

FWIW, I had an XD45 untl recently. I will be replacing it next weekend with a G21SF. My opinion of Glock has changed over time and now feel that Glock is a superior battle weapon over the XD.

Before you buy a Glock, go shoot one.

I think they are great guns, but as hard as I have tried, I just can't make them feel good in my hands. I have a large knuckle on the middle finger and the Glock trigger guard has a radiused cutout that just hurts when I shoot very much.

I would take slight issue with Justin on his comment about the world's best shooter not shooting good with a crapy gun. The truly great shooters will make you shake your head in wonder with their ability with a piece of junk.

My uncle was a top ranked pistol shooter in the New Mexico law enforcement circles for 30 years and he could shoot lights out with anything that went bang. Put a really good pistol in his hands and he could do stuff that would rival what Tom Knapp does with a shotgun.

I have the Glock 36 45cal. I have the finger extension on the mag just because I am a big guy with big hands. Love it. Have it with me daily.

I have a 21 and 27. I like all three 10mm,40 sw and 45acp just don't have a ten. I have put almost 20.000 rounds through the 21 so far. Mostly 230gr lead round nose. And I have the finger extension on the mag just makes it feel better. The only thig that I see is the the 10mm ammo might be a little bit more.

I have a Glock 23 and am a big fan. 13 plus 1 of .40 caliber medicine. If I cant put someone on the ground after 14 shots, I deserve the asswhipping that is coming to me!

Accurate enough that the operator has confidence in it. Glocks aren't bulls eye guns but will get the job done. I have been shooting a G35 in competition for almost 4yrs. It hits where I point it every time.
